How to Be a Hero: 7 Surprising Characteristics
(http://goinswriter.com/be-a-hero/)

This blog, by Jeff Goins, is about being a hero. The author asks what actually makes a hero and refers to the song below for a discussion of the topic.
You should analyze the blog and the song, and after that write a blogpost (one per group) in reply to Jeff Goins' question. Please post you reply here, in the comments field below.

Holding Out For a Hero
Song from Footloose
Written by Jim Steinman & Dean Pitchford
Sung by Bonnie Tyler

Where have all the good men gone
and where are all the gods?
Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss
and I turn
and I dream of what I need.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night.
He's gotta be strong
and he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the fight.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light.
He's gotta be sure
and it's gotta be soon

And he's gotta be larger than life!
larger than life.
Somewhere after midnight
in my wildest fantasy

Somewhere just beyond my reach
there's someone reaching back for me.
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat

It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night.
He's gotta be strong
and he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the fight.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light.
He's gotta be sure
and it's gotta be soon

And he's gotta be larger than life.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night.
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above

Out where the lightning splits the sea

I could swear there is someone
somewhere
watching me.
Through the wind
and the chill
and the rain

And the storm
and the flood

I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night.
He's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the fight.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light.
He's gotta be sure
and it's gotta be soon

And he's gotta be larger than life.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night.

  1. What is a hero made off? -Gruppe 4, Sofie, Dyveke, Nathalia, Mads!

A hero is made off a good heart.
A hero is mercyfull and everything they do is out of the goodness of ones heart. A hero does not give a shit about getting anything in return, from their good deeds.
For a hero it is in their nature to be good and help others, it's like a sixth sense. It is something that is within everyone, being a hero is a choice of lifestyle. A hero is fearless, he does not discriminate, a hero loves everyone equally. They make a big difference and helps when help is needed.
A hero is unselfish. A hero is undefinable.
Everyone can become heroes, you're not born a hero.

  2. We don’t really agree with Jeff Goins. Almost every chararistic he mentions could we find in a hero but heroes are much more than that. For us a hero is a lot of things, but the most importing thing a hero can do is doing something good for people. It doesn’t matter if he donates 1000’s of dollars or just gives a homeless guy a smile, as long as he do it for others and not himself.
In the song “Holding Out for a Hero” a hero is described very superficial. According to the song a hero has to be buff and beautiful, and he has to be able to rescue a girl. He has to be a white knight on fiery steed. A typical hero, like Hercules.
We don’t agree with that. Some heroes could be like Hercules, but a hero could also be the fat guy from McDonald’s.

  3. What is a hero? Could it be anybody? Or is it just a fantasy person?

"It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet" is a line from the famous Bonnie Tyler song "Holding Out For a Hero". A normal person wouldn't be able to sweep her off her feet. It has to be a hero. According to the text a hero has to be a good man. He has to be strong, fast and must be larger than life. She wants a fantasy hero someone you only find in fairy-tales and Disney movies.

We believe that a hero doesn't have to be like superman, Hercules or the white knight. We think that a hero is someone who takes care of their loved ones, a person who takes care of both the psychical and the psychological aspects of life. We think that a hero is a person who puts the needs of others before the needs of himself.

Have you ever been rescued from something terrible? Have you gotten a comment that made your day a good one or have you ever tried that someone got you up when you were feeling down?
Who was it? A family member? A friend? A stranger?
Is it maybe a hero for you now or was it a hero for you then?
We think that everyone are a hero, it just takes the right moment for it to be reflected.
The daily heroes -- that is who we think are the real heroes!

  5. A hero does not necesarry need to be identified with the 7 points posted in the blog. What makes a hero is someone who does something good for someone else. A hero does not put her/himself before anybody else. We belive what makes a hero is love, care and courage. A hero is willing to sacrifise himself for the joy of other people. What a hero does is helping people in need.

    Holding Out For a Hero
The singer is Bonnie Tyler and the song is written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford.
The title is “Holding Out For a Hero” and is from Footloose.
The song describes what a hero is.
    - A hero is one who is strong, fast, larger than life and fresh from the fight.
In the song there is end rhyme:
    - Fight, light
    -Gods, odds
    -Life, midnight

Jeff Goins – how to be a hero
Heroes are unexpected, unknown, ordinary, they surprising, fearless and fight for others.

    Comparison:
The song ”Holding out for a hero” sings about fantasy heroes – just like superman
Jeff Goins talk about the ordinary everyday-heroes – who could everyone

    What is a hero?
